Level 3 code- C

I think the author did a great job writing the book “Freak”.  It deals with things that can really happen to someone in life, and people can relate to the main character “Miriam”.  Also I just wanted to keep reading more of the book and could’nt put it down because it kept my attention. I also like how Miriam sticks up for herself in the end because I think everyone should stick up for themselves and not let someone else push them around. The only thing that could of been better in the book is I think everyone should of treated Miriam better because they were really mean to her. But overall “Freak” is a really good book.

I would give miriam’s charater a do-over because i think she should have traded places with her sister deborah. From even the begining where deborah goes to the salon to get a hair cut i think miriam should have done that instead. The outcome of the story would be that miriam would become more popular as she changed sooner to becoming a mature person, and as for deborah she would change back to the “freak” her and miriam used to be. I think that change would have really changed the story in favor for miriam who deserves it more than her rude sister. The change may also create a new person in deborah a nicer, kind and caring person that miriam was since the begining.

I did like the book freak. It was a little shorer than i wanted it to be though. I thought the ending wasnt enough. I would think of Miriam As  ”uniquely differnt” she does things differently but not at the same time. The part that got me was when she shaved her whole head bald and when she saved the girl that was cruel to her. I think it also shows how brave she is.I also think that her older sister was mean to her and she shouldnt of been treated like she was.

If I were to give a character a do-over in the story i would make her sister ugly and make mairiam go to a salon and get a makeover. I think that miriam’s sister was just plain out rude and that mariam didnt deserve to be treated the way she was. I think that i would have mairiam the prettier sister and her other sister the ugly one and let mariam get what she’s been dreaming for. This was a good book .

Im glad Miriam stuck up for her self and Jenny at the end. Miriam is a responsible and a very nice girl. Miriam should keep on doing what shes doing and her life would would turn out better .

Level 3. – CC

I am compare and contrsting this book Freak, to the book Perfect. I have read both books recently.

Freak and Perfect are similar and different in a few ways. In both books there are two teenage girls. They are both dealing with big issues, that a lot of girls might go through. Both of these girl face challenges and difficulties that are very hard to handle. In both books, the main characters are not the most popular girls in there school.  In perfect the girl has a bulimia problem, and has to go to group for counseling. In freak, it is different because her problem is that she is getting made fun of by the popular girls. Also, in freak she never really becomes like best friends with the popular girl, as in Perfect she does.

Level 2-J  I think that Miriam’s action at the end of the book was the right thing to do.  The way she did the right thing at the party surprised me.  I thought she would use what Jenny did to her own advantage.  I thought what she did was good and it changed the whole mood of the book.

Level 2- CD

One character in the book Freak was Miriam’s older sister Deborah.  When Miriam and Deborah were little, they were kind of like the same person.  They liked to do the same things with each other, they had the same interest.  But as Deborah got older she sort of, in a way, matured and started to branch out and like her own things.  As Deborah got older, she started to not like being around, or talking to her sister.  She changes into one of the “popular” girls at school, and now thinks of her sister as a little kid.

In the book, I’ve observed that even though Jenny Clarke is terribly mean to Mariam, Mariam is still willing to help Jenny.  For example, when they were at the party and Jenny felt uncomfortable with that guy all over her, so Mariam helped her by getting him off of her.  Even though, that day at lunch, Jenny did something horrible to Mariam, Mariam still felt it was right to help her when she needed it.  I read the whole book and thought it was good. Sorry if you read this and I give too much away or you haven’t gotten that far yet. [:
